FAQ

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact us by email.

What documents do I need to go to Scotland?
  • A valid international passport for the entire duration of your trip and at least 6 months after your return date.
  • In addition to an international passport, you will also need an electronic travel authorization (ETA). You can apply for it online starting in March via this link here.
  • A valid international or European driver's license.
What age do you need to be to drive in Scotland?

For this trip, you must be at least 25 years old and have held a driver's license for 2 years to drive a car.

What does the travel diary for the road trip contain?

The roadbook contains all the necessary information for a successful visit to Scotland.

On one hand, the complete itinerary is laid out. You'll pass through the most famous places in Scotland, but we'll also guide you to lesser-known spots that aren't yet on most travel guides. We provide suggestions, but of course, you have the choice to stop or not along the way and add extra elements to what we propose.

The roadbook also includes a selection of unique addresses where you can grab a drink or a meal in the evening.

And what does the food pack consist of?

Our food pack contains freeze-dried meals to which you just need to add hot water and ingredients to cook them yourself.

We have a regular version and a vegetarian version that both contain 3 meals per person per day for the entire duration of your trip.

Please note that the food pack is not suitable for people with allergies or those on strict diets, as it may contain traces of peanuts, gluten, and other allergens.

What additional fees should be considered?
  • Fuel: ± €350 per car for the entire trip.
  • Drinks and food.
  • Parking tickets in the cities.
Can I customize the trip to my liking?

We offer a fully mapped road trip, so it's not possible to adjust the duration and schedule of the trip. Of course, you're free to extend your journey on your own initiative, for example, by staying a few extra days in Scotland afterward or by traveling to another country.

How much can we leave with?

Scotland Nomads is specially designed for groups of 2 or 3 people.

If you're three, we'll provide an extra ground tent and camping gear (mattress, sleeping bag, and pillow), as the rooftop tent is only big enough for two people.

Want to go with more than 3 people? That's possible, but you'll need to form several small groups. Each group must register separately and will be assigned its own car. Feel free to contact us in advance to check availability.

Can we designate multiple drivers for the trip?

1 driver is included. Want to switch off driving and have 2 or more people drive? No problem! For each additional driver, you'll pay €85.

What is the total distance of the road trip?

Our itinerary is about 1365 kilometers, including some leeway for restaurant visits and detours. Want more freedom on the road? For €69 per car, you can add unlimited kilometers. This way, you can stray from the route whenever you like, without a worry. If you don't choose this option and drive more than planned? In that case, we'll charge for the extra kilometers at €0.50/km at the end of your trip.

How does the payment process work?

Within 10 days of your registration, you will need to pay a 35% deposit to confirm your trip. After that, you have until 45 days before departure to modify your options and pay the remaining balance. If you change your options, the deposit will be recalculated automatically.

You will also need to pay a security deposit shortly before departure. The amount of the deposit depends on the car insurance you have chosen (more info in the car insurance section).

There are different payment options. Did your payment fail? It’s probably due to an error when entering the reference number or exceeding your account limit.

Can I still cancel my trip?

It is still possible to cancel your trip. You can find the cancellation conditions here. You can also refer to the Superflex cancellation conditions until 01/02/2025. For more information, check the FAQ "What are the Superflex cancellation conditions?"

What are the Superflex conditions?

These conditions are available to anyone who books among the first. They allow you to move your trip to another period in the same season (subject to availability) or cancel without fees before 01/02/2025.

Is there support on site?

Upon your arrival in Scotland, you'll be warmly welcomed by our on-site rangers. They will greet you and provide a brief explanation before you start your road trip.

During your journey, you'll find all sorts of useful information in our app. Additionally, just before your departure, you'll gain access to a WhatsApp group with all participants leaving on the same date. In this group, you can communicate with each other, and someone from the team will also be available in case of an emergency.

Want to travel more responsibly?

Thanks to our partnership with Greentripper, you can offset the CO2 emissions from your trip. Your contribution goes towards the certified Wildlife Cambodia project, which protects various types of forests and the wildlife that lives there. Additionally, Travelbase also contributes on its end.
