Responsibility
By embarking on adventurous travels, we broaden our horizons, cultivate a love for diverse places and cultures, and return home with a fresh mindset and new priorities.
However, as we explore this beautiful world, we undeniably impact the nature and environment we admire.
At Travelbase, we take our responsibility seriously by striving to minimize our negative impact, contributing to climate projects and other charitable causes through our non-profit organization, the Butterfly Foundation. We also inform travelers about the ecological footprint of their journeys. Since 2023, we have had a team of ‘Green Guardians’ dedicated to making our trips more sustainable and collaborating with local charities.
No organization, foundation, or individual can single-handedly improve the world, but we believe that together, the entire travel sector can make a positive contribution to both people and the environment. Small, consistent changes can lead to significant positive impacts over time!

How we reduce emissions and create a positive Impact
We aim to keep the footprint of our travels as minimal as possible. That’s why our focus lies on journeys within Europe, and increasingly within our own countries or neighbouring regions. After all, you don’t have to travel far to experience great adventures!
On our destinations, we invest as much as possible in sustainable materials and transport. We also minimise our waste and adhere to the ‘leave no trace’ principle. Additionally, we strive to collaborate with local partners to stay at their small-scale accommodations or campsites and to provide activities, transport, and excursions.
Moreover, our trips contribute 1% of their revenue to the Butterfly Foundation, supporting various sustainable initiatives and charities at our destinations.
How you can contribute to certified nature conservation and reforestation
The CO2e* emissions from your transportation mode to the destination undoubtedly have the most significant impact on the environment. Therefore, we prioritise offering multiple transport options and limit the number of destinations that can only be reached by plane. We also keep travellers informed about the impact of their choices.
Once you book a trip, you can easily make a contribution to reduce the CO2e emissions from your transport thanks to our collaboration with Greentripper, which independently calculates the emissions of our trips and balances them through their climate project, Wildlife Cambodia. This VCS-certified project combats deforestation, elephant poaching, and illegal wildlife trade, while also creating sustainable income opportunities for local communities. For your contribution to this project, you will receive an official carbon credit certificate after your trip.
For every participant who contributes to this climate project, Travelbase also makes an additional contribution to offset local emissions. Furthermore, we also contribute to this climate project to reduce the emissions of all crew members, team members, and partners.
*CO2e = CO2-equivalent. There are various types of greenhouse gases, not just carbon dioxide. All of these can be converted to CO2-equivalent.
