FAQ

Here are some frequently asked questions. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact us via email.

What documents do I need to travel to Iceland?
  • A valid ID card (for EU citizens) or a valid international passport for the entire duration of your trip and at least 6 months after your return date.
  • A national or European driving license.
How old do I have to be to drive in Iceland?

For this trip, you must be at least 21 years old and have held a driver's license for 2 years to drive a car.

What exactly does the roadbook contain?

The roadbook contains all the necessary information for a successful visit to Iceland.

On one hand, the complete itinerary is laid out. You'll pass through the most famous places in Iceland, but we'll also guide you to lesser-known spots that aren't yet on most travel guides' maps. We’ll suggest some places, but of course, you’ll have the choice to stop along the way or add extra elements beyond what we propose.

The roadbook also includes a selection of unique addresses where you can grab a drink or a meal in the evening.

And what does the food pack consist of?

Our foodpack contains freeze-dried meals to which you just need to add hot water and ingredients to cook them yourself.

We have a regular version and a vegetarian version, both of which include 3 meals per person per day throughout your trip.

Please note that the foodpack is not suitable for people with allergies or those on a strict diet, as it may contain traces of peanuts, gluten, and other allergens.

What are the additional costs?
  • An Icelandic tourist tax of €17.5 (€2.5 per night)
  • Fuel: approximately €400 per car for the entire trip
  • For drinks and food (more info under the drinks and food section).
  • Access to certain tourist sites.
  • Parking tickets.

Can I customize the trip to my liking?

We offer a fully mapped road trip, so it's not possible to adjust the duration and itinerary of the trip. Of course, you are free to extend your journey on your own initiative by staying a few extra days in Iceland afterwards or by traveling to another country.

With how many people can I make this trip?

Iceland Nomads has been specially designed for groups of 2 or 3 people.

If you are three, we provide an additional ground tent and camping gear (mattress, sleeping bag, and pillow), as the rooftop tent is only big enough for two people.

Want to travel with more than 3 people? That's possible, but you'll need to form several small groups. Each group must register separately and will be assigned its own vehicle. Feel free to contact us in advance to check availability.

What is the payment procedure?

Within 5 days of your registration, you will need to pay a 35% deposit to confirm your trip. After that, you have until 45 days before departure to modify your options and pay the remaining balance. If you change your options, the deposit will be recalculated automatically.

You will also need to pay a security deposit shortly before departure. The amount of the deposit depends on the car insurance you have chosen (more info in the car insurance section).

There are different payment options. Did your payment fail? It's probably due to an error when entering the reference number or exceeding your account limit.

Can I still cancel my trip?

You can still cancel your trip. You can find the cancellation conditions here. You can also refer to the Superflex cancellation conditions until 01/03/2025. For more information, check the FAQ “What are the Superflex cancellation conditions?”

What are the Superflex cancellation conditions?

These conditions are available to everyone who books among the first. They allow you to move your trip to another time within the same season (subject to availability) or to cancel without any fees before 01/03/2025.

Is there on-site support?

Upon your arrival in Iceland, you will be warmly welcomed by our on-site rangers. They will greet you and provide some explanations before you start your road trip.

During your journey, you'll find all sorts of useful information in our app. Additionally, just before your departure, you will have access to a WhatsApp group with all the participants leaving on the same date. In this group, you can communicate with each other, and someone from the team will also be available in case of emergencies.

Would you like to do your part for the planet?

Thanks to our partnership with Greentripper, you can offset the CO2 emissions from your trip. Your contribution goes towards the certified Wildlife Cambodia project, which protects various types of forests and the wildlife that lives there. Additionally, Travelbase also contributes on its side.

How to calculate this?

Based on this criterion, we assess the impact of a trip in terms of environmental and social sustainability.

This project supports Wildlife Cambodia by Greentripper and helps make the mode of transport carbon-neutral.
