Volunteer Work in Namibia

Use your talents and help transform the lives of African youth in Namibia, becoming a driving force behind a generation that can grow up healthy and productive.

The Butterfly Foundation, in collaboration with Travelbase, is looking for two dedicated volunteers for a 3-month pilot project in Windhoek, Namibia.

You will work directly with our local partner, One Economy Foundation, and play a crucial role in documenting and supporting projects that make a real difference in the community.

THE MISSION

We are looking for two motivated volunteers who want to get involved with a big heart for others. Social impact is central to the Foundation, and we are looking for people willing to go the extra mile for others and who have a touch of ‘world improver’ in them.

Instead of focusing on specific titles, we are looking for people who can take on the following roles מתוך a strong sense of social commitment:

  • Social & Community Support: You support the Foundation’s health and well-being initiatives. You are there for people, listen to their needs, and help where necessary to make a direct impact on the local community.
  • Impact Documentation: You help make the Foundation’s work tangible. The most important part is documenting people’s stories and the progress of projects. If you can also easily write an article or create engaging videos to showcase our impact, that’s a great plus—but your passion for the mission comes first.

Do you have experience in the healthcare sector or a degree in social work? Are you a data capturer, professional writer, or psychologist? Then we can definitely use your help!

ABOUT THE ROLE

Although this is an unpaid position, we make sure our volunteers are well supported:

  • Flights: Return flights to Namibia are fully covered.
  • Accommodation: You will stay in a comfortable Butterfly Crew House (Basecamp Namibia), shared with, among others, rangers from the Travelbase “Namibia Nomads” project.
  • Community: Become part of a close-knit community of travelers and local changemakers.
  • Impact: A hands-on opportunity to work at the prestigious One Economy Foundation under the guidance of their Health and Wellness team.

ABOUT YOU

  • Professionalism: You have a degree or proven experience in writing, data management, social work, nursing, or psychological support.
  • Language: You are fluent in English.
  • Commitment: Available for a period of 3 months from mid-September to mid-December.
  • Adaptability: Willing to live and work in the vibrant city of Windhoek within a shared living environment.
  • Independence: Although One Economy provides placement and tasks, you are proactive and able to manage your responsibilities independently.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

  • Duration: 3 months (Pilot Project).
  • Location: Windhoek, Namibia.
  • Timing: mid-September – mid-December 2026.
  • Costs: Flights and accommodation are covered; you will also receive a limited weekly food budget. Personal expenses are at your own cost.
  • Explore: Get the chance to explore Namibia with Namibia Nomads.

TIMELINE

Apply as soon as possible so we can match your profile with our needs. If your motivation letter and CV match our requirements, you will be invited for an interview (online or by phone) with the Butterfly team. Suitable candidates will then have a video call with One Economy Foundation.

Are you ready to use your professional skills for a meaningful social impact on African youth in Namibia? Convince us that you are the person the Butterfly Foundation is looking for and send us your CV and motivation letter.
